Why Join?

The EIS represent over 80% of Scotland's teaching profession, providing our members with the strongest voice in Scottish Education.

We provide the best protection and representation in the workplace as well as national representation in negotiations over pay, conditions of service and the structure of the curriculum.

Pay and Conditions of Service

The pay and conditions of service of teachers and associated professionals is negotiated through the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers (SNCT) and Local Negotiating Committees for Teachers (LNCTs).

The EIS holds 8 out of 11 places on the Teachers' Side SNCT and 13 out of 21 places in the full Teachers' Panel SNCT. The EIS holds the majority of places on every LNCT in Scotland.

Representation

The EIS has a team of 7 area officers across Scotland who, in conjunction with 32 local association secretaries, can provide advice on grievance and discipline.

Legal Advice

The EIS has access to the very best legal advice when that is required on matters relating to employment. This includes advice on cases referred to regulatory bodies.
