CPD and Lifelong Learning

BECOME AN EIS LEARNING REPRESENTATIVE

Do you want to become active in the EIS CPD Agenda? If so, you can train to become an EIS Learning Rep (LR).

If you work in a school you would train to become a multi-establishment LR, if you work in a further education college or higher education institution you would become an LR for your own institution. The role of LRs is to raise awareness of CPD opportunities and encourage colleagues to undertake the CPD which is most relevant to them.

Learning Rep Course

All student LRs undertake an on-line course which included an introductory section provided through TUC Education at Stow College and the second part of the course is provided by the University of the West of Scotland. The introductory section lasts for six weeks and requires 2/3 hours participation per week. The second part of the course lasts for three months and requires considerable participation. You have to complete both parts of the course to become an accredited EIS LR.

Support and Encouragement

A mentor (a current LR) is allocated to each student LR to give them support and encouragement throughout the course.

A national on-line forum is provided for LRs and each LR is given access to that forum. The forum includes information relevant to all LRs and also provides the opportunity for LRS to share information, ask questions and discuss matters of relevance to them.

LRs are supported by a full time CPD/LR Co-ordinator who is there to give guidance and support to all EIS LRs, including advice on how to get started in the role as well as offering support on an on-going basis. Meetings of LRs are held on a regular basis where they have the opportunity to network and also to be updated on CPD developments related to their role.
