health & safety
The EIS provides advice to Local Association and Branch Health and Safety Representatives on all areas of health and safety in the workplace.
If you have a specific health and safety problem or concern you should contact your EIS health and safety representative.
If you are a health and safety representative in need of advice, help or support you should contact your EIS Local Association Secretary.
Each Local Association has arrangements to deal with health and safety issues and, where necessary, may request assistance from the National Officer responsible for health and safety.
The Safety Representatives’ Charter
The Higher and Further Education Advisory Committee and the Schools Education Advisory Committee have produced a Safety Representatives’ Charter which seeks to promote the importance of Safety Representatives within the education sector.
All employers within the education sector have been sent a copy of this with encouragement from the Health and Safety Commission to adopt the Charter into the health and safety policy.
This Charter clearly sets out the role and rights of safety representatives and is the basis for partnership working on health and safety issues.
More information about the charter can be found here
Safety Representatives should ensure if this has not yet been adopted that it is placed on the Safety Committee’s agenda.
