pay & conditions of service
This Committee is charged with negotiations on pay and conditions through the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers (SNCT), which is a tripartite body comprising teachers representatives, representatives of the Scottish Government and local authority representatives drawn from the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA).
The Teachers’ Side of the SNCT has 11 seats which are determined annually by recognised unions and which are based on union membership size. Currently the EIS holds 8 of the 11 seats on the Teachers’ Side SNCT.
Policy for the Teachers’ Side SNCT is developed by a larger Teachers’ Panel on which EIS holds 13 seats out of 21 seats, this reflecting the fact that EIS represents around 80% of Scottish teachers and associated professionals whose pay and conditions are negotiated through the SNCT.
Further details of the SNCT can be found on http://www.snct.org.uk.
The pay and conditions of service of teachers, music instructors, education psychologists and Quality Improvement Officers are drawn from the SNCT Handbook, the 2001 National Agreement, A Teaching Profession for the 21st Century and SNCT Circulars.
