EIS Annual General Meeting: 7-9 June, Dundee Caird Hall

Created on: 04 Jun 2012 | Last modified: 09 Feb 2021

The 2012 Annual General Meeting of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) will be held from Thursday 7 June - Saturday 9 June at the Caird Hall, Dundee.  The EIS is Scotland's largest teaching union, representing over 80% of the country's teachers and lecturers.

The AGM is the sovereign body of the EIS, and is key to the democratic structure and decision-making processes of the organisation. The AGM meets in June every year.  The AGM debates Motions, sets EIS priorities and policies, and approves the EIS Council decisions from the previous year.

This year, the AGM will debate 67 Motions on a wide range of issues, including 21 Motions on Education matters, 3 Motions on Employment Relations matters, 3 Motions on Equality matters, 20 Motions on Salaries matter, and 19 Motions on Organisation matters.

The AGM also features keynote addresses from both the EIS President (Thursday 7 June, 2.30pm approx) and EIS General Secretary (Friday 8 June, 12 noon approx).

Around 350 teacher and lecturer delegates elected by local associations and the self-governing associations, (EIS-ULA and EIS-FELA) attend the AGM.  The 125 elected members of the national EIS Council are automatically delegates at the AGM.

Further information on the EIS AGM, including the programme and details of the Motions to be debated, can be found at www.eis.org.uk
