Malawi Cycle and Trek fundraiser 2013

New Year, New Challenge?

Sign up to the Malawi Cycle and Trek 2013!

It's that time of year again - Christmas has been and gone all too quickly and the new year brings the prospect of new starts, new adventures and new challenges.

This year, make a resolution you can stick to and sign yourself up to the Malawi Cycle and Trek this summer holiday - get fit, meet fantastic new people, make a valuable contribution to the quality of education in some of the world's poorest communities and have the adventure of a lifetime!

Liz Barton, a Head Teacher from Livingston, took part in the Malawi Bike Ride 2012 and has just signed up to this year’s Malawi Cycle and Trek.  She shares her experience of last year’s trip – the fundraising, the training, the adventure in Malawi and how it has impacted on her work as a teacher. Be inspired by her story… Download case study (pdf)

We already have 9 lovely people signed up - could you be next to join them on the incredible cycle from the shores of Lake Malawi to Mulanje, via Liwonde National Park to see elephants and hippos, on to the spectacular Mulanje tea plantations, and finally trek up majestic Mount Mulanje.

Inspire your pupils to be Global Citizens

You will gain a unique insight into the challenges for Malawian schools and the impact of your fundraising  by visiting two of the schools we support, speaking to teachers and interacting with the children. For teachers this is a fantastic opportunity to explore the challenges faced in Malawian schools and provides an excellent basis for future Global Citizenship lessons.

Make a difference in Malawi

Primary school drop-out rates for girls in rural Africa are very high - in Malawi only 24% of girls complete the full 8 years of primary school. Poverty, lack of security, and cultural beliefs about girls’ education are major barriers. With Link’s support, community Mother Groups are working with families to demonstrate the value of educating their daughters, giving them the chance to break the cycle of poverty.
