International Women’s Day 2014

The EIS held a free concert, headlined by Kim Edgar, to celebrate International Women's Day on 8 March 2014 at Adelaides, Bath Street, Glasgow. The theme of the event was 'Women Rising'.

Compere for the evening was Susie McCabe, a regular on the Scottish comedy circuit for the past 3 years, who sold out two Glasgow International comedy festival shows in her debut year.

Jimmy Ross, Finlay Allison and Gillian Frame performed for the first half of the evening, providing a historical perspective on the notable successes of women in the face of adversity; whether it be the experiences of striking female workers in the Neilston thread mills or Mary Barbour's influence on the Red Clydeside movement.

The second half of the evening featured musical contributions by Fiona Liddell and Kim Edgar, providing a more contemporary view of the challenges that women face. A selection of EIS members also contribution music and prose for the event.
