EIS equality conference

The EIS is organising a national conference on the Equality Act 2010 and its implications for education. The conference will take place in the Radisson Hotel, Glasgow on Saturday 30 October 2010.
 
Speakers include
  • Maggie Tierney, Deputy Director (Support for Learning), from the Learning Directorate, Scottish Government,
  • Lynn Welsh, Head of Legal, Equality and Human Rights Commission and
  • Yvonne Strachan, Head of the Equality Unit, Scottish Government.
Representatives from:
  • Enable,
  • The Scottish Refugee Council,
  • LGBT Youth,
  • EHRC and
  • The Scottish Government
Will lead seminar groups which will look at the Act in more detail.
 
The other seminar groups will allow delegates to have their say on how the EIS should take forward the Equality Agenda in challenging times.
 
There will also be a number of stalls and an exhibition from the Scottish Refugee Council entitled ‘Life After Iraq’ by award-winning photojournalist Angela Catlin, with words by Scottish journalist Billy Briggs.
