At the EIS Professional Learning Conference 2020, Education Scotland Strategic Director Gillian Hamilton led a specialist seminar for NQTs and early career teachers entitled 'Your Professional Learning'.
Gillian focused on professional learning in schools happening with colleagues, and being part of what we do as a profession.
Gillian outlined PL should be challenging to develop thinking and skills. it should be underpinned by developing skills of enquiry and critical thinking, and reflective practice.
Gillian advised professionals to plan what PL to engage with, not everything on offer will be appropriate or interesting to everyone. Planning will help develop skills and engage in areas of interest.
Gillian ended with the message that individuals should own their own PRD process, which should address both strengths and challenges.
