Consultative Pay Ballot - Last chance to vote

The current EIS ballot on the revised pay offer from COSLA closes soon.

The recommendation of Council is for members to accept this offer.

If you have not received your email with your voting details contact ballot@eis.org.uk with your full name, EIS number and address and we will arrange for another email to be sent out to you.

Lobbying the Minister

We are asking members to email Cabinet Secretary, Shirley-Anne Somerville to urge her to change the Scottish Government decision of asymptomatic LFTs in schools by maintaining the current testing regime.

No longer providing LFTs for teachers for asymptomatic testing will have a detrimental impact on teacher confidence and absence rates, as schools are a high-risk environment for Covid transmission – as can be seen by the current record levels of Covid related absence.

Public Health Scotland Webinar

EIS representatives recently met with representatives of PHS & Scottish Government.

Prof Linda Bauld was also present as Chair of the Expert Advisory Group for the Scottish Government. The meeting started with a short report by PHS regarding the current Covid situation and a brief summary of the planned staged changes to mitigations within schools, followed by a Q&A session in which the EIS representatives posed questions to PHS and the Scottish Government.

Larry Flanagan Standing down as EIS General Secretary

EIS General Secretary, Larry Flanagan has announced that he will stand down from his post in the summer. Mr Flanagan has been the Institute’s General Secretary for the past 10 years, having previously been an English teacher and long-time EIS activist. He remains a registered teacher and will continue to focus on his international trade union work as President of the ETUCE. Mr Flanagan intends to step aside in the summer, after the EIS AGM and following completion of the appointment process of his successor as General Secretary.
