Value Education Value Teachers - Update

Following a special Council meeting on 12 January a move towards a statutory ballot for industrial action was approved. The ballot is scheduled to open on Thursday 31 January.

Since the ballot has been announced, the Cabinet Secretary has written to the EIS outlining his proposal for an enhanced offer.

However, until this proposal is put forward by COSLA it is not yet a formal offer. Only local authorities can actually make a pay offer to teachers.

COSLA leaders are scheduled to meet on Friday, where they will decide whether or not to make the improved pay offer to teachers.

Should they decide to make the offer, the EIS will suspend the planned strike ballot while it consults its members on whether or not to accept the new offer.

EIS-ULA Statutory Ballot

EIS-ULA has been in dispute since July 2018 over a failure to agree a cost of living pay rise.

As a result of the failure to agree EIS-ULA is now moving to a Statutory Ballot for Strike Action. The ballot opened yesterday and will close on Tuesday 5th March 2019.

As with all statutory ballots, this is a paper ballot to ULA members' home addresses and anyone who has not received their ballot paper by Thursday 24 January should contact membership@eis.org.uk or call 0131 225 6244.
