Every worker deserves a cost-of-living pay rise, yet we as college lecturers have not had one since 2016!

Like all public sector workers, college lecturers are seeking to ensure that our pay keeps up with the cost of living. Negotiations have been taking place regarding this matter since 2016 and so far our employers have only made an offer that amounts to a consolidated pay of 2.5% over three years. This is a real-terms pay cut for lecturers. College lecturers do their job because they care about making a difference for their students. We believe that we should be paid fairly for what we do, and that our pay should keep up with the rising cost of living.

It is time for the employers to engage meaningfully in negotiations and for the Government to stand by its pay policy. Strike action is a last resort, in a situation where our employers are no longer negotiating with us.
