LGBT Network

Unfortunately discrimination does happen in workplaces. If you would like to talk to someone about being an LGBT teacher in Scotland please contact LGBT@eis.org.uk where you will be put in touch with a classroom teacher or a college lecturer for information and advice in complete confidence.

The EIS LGBT+ Network is an informal network which meets 2-3 times per year and shares information and updates between meetings. Details about the next meeting of the network will follow shortly. 

The Network:

• Connects EIS members who identify as LGBT+ or as allies for LGBT+ equality
• Advises the Equality Committee on LGBT+ equality and discrimination issues
• Provides opportunities for members to attend events, CPD, conferences and seminars
• Keeps members up to date with equality news and initiatives
• Gives members the chance to shape EIS policy

The next meeting of the LGBT Network will take place on Thursday 28 November, 4:30-6pm, online (via Teams).

This meeting will focus on mental health from an equality perspective, unpacking social justice-informed strategies to support the wellbeing of disabled, neurodivergent, LGBT, BAME and women members at work.

At the meeting, Equality-trainer and therapist, Ellie Muniandy will facilitate a workshop about mental health and equality. Ellie (she/they) is a queer person of colour and an anti-oppressive trainer, therapist, supervisor and facilitator. They are based in Edinburgh and work with a range of different organisations across all equality strands.
