Dear Member
Following the positive result in the recent statutory ballot on the 2022/23 pay round, the EIS-ULA Executive and EIS Executive have met and agreed to call strike action in line with the mandate received, at the following institutions:
- Edinburgh Napier
- Glasgow Caledonian
- University of the West of Scotland
The strike action will take the form of 2 consecutive days on 24th and 25th November 2022.
The formal notice of intention to strike has been issued in line with the legal requirements to these employers.
The strike days have been chosen to complement the action being taken by other higher education unions in locations across Scotland: UCU, UNISON and UNITE.
EIS has produced an FAQ document about the strikes which will be available to download on the EIS website next week.
If you are in one of the affected institutions, you are being called to take the strike action on these dates. We encourage you to engage with your local branch and to report for picket duty. Further information and resources will be sent to members in due course, and campaign materials will be available at your workplace on the days of strike action.
If your institution is not one of those taking strike action, please consider how you can show your support to any unions who are taking action at your workplace. This could include working from home where possible or visiting the picket lines to offer your support. You cannot lawfully join the action where EIS does not have a mandate (i.e. if your institution is not one of those listed above) but you can certainly show your support. You should not pick up, nor be asked to pick up, the work of striking staff.
If you have any questions or queries about the action, please contact your local branch rep or email dshepherd@eis.org.uk.
