Dear Colleague
Yesterday’s meeting of the Salaries Committee unanimously agreed to seek authorisation from the National Executive, which meets next Friday (2nd September), for a consultative ballot of members on the latest inadequate pay offer of 5%.
Salaries agreed to recommend rejection of the offer and to request that the Executive Committee open a consultative ballot on strike action in the very near future. The Committee felt strongly that EIS members have waited more than long enough for a settlement and must now be given the opportunity to demonstrate their anger to COSLA and the Scottish Government, at being offered - months after a pay rise should have been in their pockets - what amounts to almost an 8% pay cut as the cost of living continues to soar.
The EIS Executive will meet on Friday of next week to confirm ballot arrangements. A further update will be issued following that meeting.
In the meantime, members are encouraged to get involved in the #PayAttention campaign locally - talk to colleagues and supporters about it, and attend branch and local association meetings to keep up to date and to find out how you might play your part in winning a fair pay increase for you and your fellow teachers.
