Please read the GTCS Circular 02/24 as part of the nationally bargained terms and conditions. This makes registration part of your employment contract and sets out deadlines for provisional conditional registration and full registration. Please make sure you secure TQFE in sufficient time to apply for registration. Circular 03/18 outlines what to do if there are any issues with gaining TQFE. The registration process can take a few months so please ensure you apply in plenty of time.
You will need a copy of your teaching qualification. If you can’t find it, check with your college HR Department in the first instance as they may hold a copy. If they don’t, then you should contact your university provider for confirmation of the award. The GTCS will accept an email from them confirming that you have successfully completed the qualification. For those who completed the TQFE in sessions 2019/20 and 2020/21, you will only have an electronic certificate as a result of COVID restrictions and this is fine.
You will also need an updated PVG. This is required by law and costs £18. Once you submit your online application to GTCS, you will receive an email from Disclosure Scotland which must be actioned within 7 days.

If you don’t currently hold a TQFE, please speak to your college to make sure you are on a list of those who are required to have paid remission to undertake the course.
Work is ongoing within GTCS to consider and identify validated routes to registration. Alternative qualifications will be assessed as part of this process. Please contact GTCS as soon as possible to undertake this process: Qualified outside Scotland (college lecturer)
