SNCT 20/76 - Arrangements for Re-opening Schools August 2020
Dear EIS Member,
We hope you and your families all stayed safe during this hectic time.
Clackmannanshire LNCT have agreed to a return date to school of 10th August 2020. This will allow for an in-service on the 10th and 11th August and pupil return on the 12th August 2020. The extra five days worked are still to be negotiated and I will update you as soon as possible and before the end of term. The time will be given back in the 2020/2021 session. All information including arrangements for teachers retiring and those who have pre-existing holidays is attached.
The EIS nationally has continued to do all it can to ensure you are protected in terms of employment and your safety. There have been updates on the June return, then Risk Assessment and Health and Safety Checklist, and a Briefing on Government Guidance. The online query form is there if you require it.
We would like to invite all Clackmannanshire EIS members, to join LA Secretary Karen Farrell, EIS Area Officer Sarah Collins and EIS Organiser Lou Dear, for a ‘Recovery and Return Training’ on Wednesday 10th June from 15.30-5pm. This training will cover the context of a June return to schools, health and safety information, recovery preparedness and planning work and the opportunity for a Q&A. Register here to attend: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/recovery-and-return-training-clacks-tickets-108111404120
Please register for the first in a series of EIS Webinars, the General Secretary’s Update and Q&A with all members. The event will be on Webex on Tuesday, 9th of June at 6pm for one hour. Please register for the event here: https://www.eis.org.uk/Content/CourseRegistration
We would remind you at this difficult time that no members of staff should be in schools or hubs unless they are part of the agreed volunteer arrangements set up for childcare of key workers. If you are a volunteer remember that gives you the classification of being a key worker.
If you are not in school as a volunteer on the agreed rota you should stay at home.
As the Scottish Government’s focus on the economic impact of Covid-19 continues, we will be providing regular bulletins to signpost you to the latest sources of information. We hope that you will find this useful and share with your networks where appropriate.
At Tuesday’s media briefing, the First Minister thanked unpaid carers and confirmed that those who are eligible will receive the further Coronavirus supplement of £230 at the end of the month, along with their normal Carers’ Allowance Supplement. She also thanked volunteers, during Volunteers Week. You can read the First Minister’s full statement here.
Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop has updated MSPs on the Scottish Government Business Support Scheme. More than £100 million has now been awarded and small B&Bs, who were ineligible for other support due to not having a business bank account, will be able to apply for a share of £3 million of funding. Further details are available here.

“The EIS is clear that members should not be returning to school buildings before there has been a deep clean of schools which have been closed and risk assessments, in all buildings, have been carried out with any subsequent actions addressed.”
