UWS Compulsory Redundancies – Are we all in it together?
If you have not yet received your ballot paper, please email ballot@eis.org.uk with your name and home address, and we will arrange for a duplicate to be issued to you.
The ENU statutory ballot opened last week. Hopefully you have received your ballot by now. The EIS are urging members to vote YES for strike action in pursuit of a no compulsory redundancy guarantee from your management. When you receive the ballot paper, cast your vote and post it in the envelope provided as soon as possible.
This week, members will have received an email update from Principal & Vice Chancellor, Sue Rigby, in which she expects the University to send out “at risk of redundancy” letters in the next few weeks. The Principal reported that there may be fewer compulsory redundancies due to the number of colleagues taking voluntary severance (VS). The EIS will fight for all jobs; one compulsory redundancy is too many, and we are fighting for a no-compulsory redundancy agreement, as we obtained in UWS.
The Principal also reported that individual redundancy consultations will start in January 2026. We must make clear that it is the view of the EIS that the University has not fulfilled its statutory obligations regarding fair and meaningful collective consultation. Neither the discussions held earlier in the year, nor the material shared to date constitutes meaningful collective consultation on the proposed redundancies.
A large turnout and strong YES vote is the only way for ENU management to fully understand that members are not willing to stand back and allow redundancies to happen. Not only would these continuing cuts have a devastating effect on educational provision and research, but they would also have a marked impact on workload for those staff who remain at the University.
Everyone needs to; Stand up! Defend Jobs! No compulsory redundancies at ENU!
Remember to vote YES for strike action and post your ballot as soon as possible.
