Unsustainable Workload at ENU: Your Vote Is Essential
You can let us know you have voted by clicking the link in your email if you have not already done so. This helps us to know we are on track to beating the anti-trade union, 50% turnout threshold.
If you have not yet received your ballot paper, please email ballot@eis.org.uk with your name and home address and we will arrange for a duplicate to be issued to you.
Colleagues, experience tells trade unionists that you get nothing for nothing in this world. Your employer, Edinburgh Napier University, will act in what it perceives to be its own best interests—and too often, that means prioritising cost-cutting over the wellbeing of dedicated staff.
Members have been clear with us: workload at ENU for many academic staff is already unsustainable, and the way this process has been handled has only intensified pressure and uncertainty. The significant number of colleagues who have felt pushed toward Voluntary Redundancy (VR) will undoubtedly worsen workloads, impact health and wellbeing, and reduce the capacity of schools and departments to deliver quality teaching, research and support. The reality is that the consequences of this process are already being felt, and without decisive collective action, ENU will continue to push as far as it can get away with.
This is why your participation in the statutory ballot is crucial. This is not a paper exercise; it is the legal mechanism by which we can demonstrate our collective resolve and compel the University to rethink its approach. A high turnout and a strong ‘YES’ vote send an unmistakable message: we will not accept compulsory redundancies, nor the erosion of working conditions through excessive workload and understaffing. A strong mandate gives us the legal power to escalate our campaign and use every tool available to defend your jobs, your health and wellbeing, and the quality of education at ENU.
Do not leave it to someone else. Do not assume your vote won’t matter - every single ballot paper counts. The University is counting on disengagement. They are relying on staff feeling tired, overwhelmed, and isolated. Prove them wrong. Cast your vote, make your voice heard, and stand with your colleagues for a fair, safe and sustainable future.
We need all ENU members to:
STAND UP!
DEFEND JOBS!
NO COMPULSORY REDUNDANCIES AT ENU!
The EIS urges all members to vote YES in the statutory ballot, post it away as soon as possible and make their voices heard.
