In accordance with policy agreed by Council, the Institute’s Strike Hardship Fund will be available to provide financial support to those members who are disproportionately affected by and take part in the strike action, recently announced by EIS-ULA.
The Hardship Payment will be paid to qualifying members up to a maximum of £60 for each working day on which strike action is taken.
Please note that the hardship fund is not a daily payment for everyone taking strike action. Rather, payments are made to applicants demonstrating ‘Disproportionate Hardship’ due to loss of income deriving from the action.
‘Disproportionate Hardship’ is not defined. However, it is usually interpreted to include:
Part time workers, whose working days include a disproportionate number of strike days;
Households in which more than one member is participating in the action;
Members with particularly onerous financial commitments, such as caring responsibilities.
Applications are reviewed by a panel comprising Office Bearers and Officials, which has discretion to assess applications on a case-by-case basis.
