March 2024

Please note that Scottish Teachers Circular 2024/02 has been published on the SPPA website. The purpose of this circular is to advise employers of the introduction of a new members' contribution structure in the Scottish Teachers' Pension Scheme (STPS). The contribution structure effective from 1st April 2024 is shown in Table 1 of circular 2024/02. Employers have been asked to inform members of the forthcoming changes.

The Scottish Teachers' Pension Scheme's Consultation on Implementing the 2015 remedy is now available on the SPPA Website

The Consultation runs from 23rd May 2023 until 23rd July 2023.

The EIS response will be available in due course.

SPPA are not yet in a position to make revisions to pensions paid out from April 2022. Revisions to pensions will not be made until after October 2023 and possibly for some time after that date.

2022 Annual Benefit Statements are now available on the SPPA portal to active members.

A document with an update on The McCloud judgement 2015 Remedy and a link to statements is available here

Eligible members can use the 2015 Remedy Calculator to estimate what benefits they would be entitled to when they choose to retire

We advise members to check their statement each year to ensure the information thereon is correct.

On 25th March 2020 the Economic Secretary to the Treasury laid a Written Ministerial Statement before the UK Parliament to provide an update on the progress being made to address the discrimination identified by the Court of Appeal in the 2015 public service pension scheme reforms.  Please see the update on the SPPA website through this link.
