SRUC Consultative Ballot

Created on: 01 Sep 2025

The Joint Trade Unions submitted the 2024/25 pay claim of 5% towards the end of 2024. This claim was rejected by the employer, who then made an offer of 1%.

The Trade Unions rejected this offer and suggested a counter claim of 8% to cover 2024 - 2026, to take into account that we were already part way through the first year of the claim.

SRUC management then responded with a full and final offer of 2%, for 2024 - 2025, and rejected the proposal of a 2-year claim. Management then tabled their full and final offer of 2% for all spinal points.

All three TUs agreed to ballot the members on the full and final offer.  Prospect and Unison ballots are completed, with the former voting to accept and the latter to reject the offer. EIS are recommending rejection of the offer as 2% represents a pay cut in real terms.  Further to this, unpromoted lecturers at SRUC have been paid for many years, significantly less than their FE and HE counterparts and this pay offer falls short of what is needed to address the pay degradation its members have faced over several years. The EIS does not accept that the financial situation in the SRUC is the fault of staff and that this is the underlying reason for such a low offer.

Following two branch meetings of SRUC members, where the branch voted to reject the 2% pay offer. We have therefore opened a consultative ballot on the 27th of August with a recommendation to vote NO in the ballot and reject this derisory offer.
