Mairéad is Professor and Chair in Digital Education in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester, where she is also Associate Director for eLearning and Teaching Innovation.

She holds a Ph.D. from McMaster University in Canada and an M.A. from K.U. Leuven in Belgium.

Her career has straddled the worlds of higher education, education technology, professional education, and start-ups. Irish-born, she has worked in Canada, the USA, Belgium and Spain, in multiple languages and sectors, as a researcher, designer, lecturer and consultant for digital programmes in the arts, humanities, social sciences, sports and business. 

Mairéad led the University of Manchester’s Faculty of Humanities response to generative AI and assessment, and regularly gives talks on digital and post-digital education, teaching and learning innovation,  emerging technologies and learning design.
