Empowerment - Barriers and Opportunities

At the EIS Professional Learning Conference 2020, EIS General Secretary Larry Flanagan gave a keynote address on the topic of Empowerment, outlining the context of the empowerment agenda and the Institute’s perspectives.

Larry touched on results from the 2018 Value Education Value Teachers Member Survey as well as more recent research to identify teachers needs relating to empowerment, workload and collegiality in their schools.

Attendees also heard about how the empowerment agenda connects with the ambition to ensure teachers are trusted, respected and supported in their work, as reflected in the 2018 pay award and the joint EIS and Scottish Government commitments secured at the 2019 International Summit of the Teaching Profession.
