Sexual Orientation is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010. This Act also offers legal protection to people who are proposing to undergo, undergoing or who have undergone gender reassignment, this too being a protected characteristic.
Unfortunately discrimination against LGBT+ people does happen in workplaces. If you would like to talk to someone about being an LGBT teacher in Scotland please contact LGBT@eis.org.uk where you will be put in touch with a classroom teacher or a college lecturer for information and advice in complete confidence.
We also have an LGBT Network. Please contact the EIS Equality Department for more information.
