The EIS is Scotland's largest and most influential trade union and professional organisation for teachers and lecturers, with over 65,000 members working in all education sectors and at all career stages.
Starting Salary £38,880 (with scale increases over 4 years to £43,740)
We are currently seeking a full time Administrative Assistant to join our Organisation Department.
The post will involve a wide range of duties, including work in connection with the EIS Further Education Lecturers Association (FELA), clerical support to National Officers, organisation of FELA ballots and departmental support.
The candidate should have significant experience of office administration. The role also requires a high level of knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to work under pressure and on your own initiative is also necessary.
This is a full-time position based in our headquarters in Moray Place, Edinburgh. However, the Institute has a Flexible Working Patterns policy offering all members of staff a high degree of flexibility over the time and location at which work is carried out, subject to the overall requirements of the EIS and its members.

An opportunity has arisen to join our team in a permanent, full-time role as National Officer (Salaries), working in direct support of the EIS Salaries Committee, which has responsibility for the protection and advancement of teachers’ pay, and terms and conditions of employment.
Duties of the post, which sits within the Employment Relations department, will include the servicing of and the provision of support to the EIS Salaries Committee; servicing the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers (“SNCT”), comprising teacher trade unions, the Scottish Government and COSLA on behalf of local authority employers; and the provision of advice and training for EIS colleagues and members in relation to the SNCT and national terms and conditions of service.
The post holder will also contribute to the organising and campaigning activities of the Institute as required.
