EIS Learning Reps, consistent with the terms of the national and local EIS constitutions, promote high-quality teacher professional learning within their authority area.
They provide information, support and advice about all aspects of professional learning, including Professional Update. FE and HE Learning Reps work within their own institutions, though some may work across campuses.
A Learning Rep does not fulfil the same role as a local association negotiator. Learning Reps do not undertake case work or represent members. They have the rights and entitlements of Learning Reps as set out in the relevant legislation and ACAS Code.
Your EIS Learning Rep is trained to support you in all aspects of professional learning, Professional Review and Development and Professional Update.
Learning Reps work in a flexible manner with appropriate stakeholders committed to the quality professional development agenda for teachers. These include local authority and Scottish Government representatives, teachers who are members of other unions and non-union teachers. Learning Reps will, however, only provide detailed support, information and advice on professional learning opportunities to members of the EIS.
EIS Learning Reps are subject to the "Standards for EIS Learning Representatives”.
