Exploring Art and Creative Approaches for Inclusion

Created on: 12 Aug 2025

Join Strathclyde University on Wednesday 8th October, 10am-3.30pm, at the EIS Edinburgh HQ, for Exploring Art and Creative Approaches for Inclusion.

This course is designed to support understanding of how to use drawing and images to support the literacy development of diverse communities of learners in inclusive classrooms.

The course will:

  • Explore theoretical underpinnings from research about the power of drawing and images as a tool for learning.

  • Explore practice-based techniques through practical exemplification led by an experience arts and inclusion educator. These methods can all be quickly transferred into classroom contexts and can provide teachers with a ‘drawing toolkit’ which can be used to explore and experiment alongside their pupils.

The sessions will be fun and informative and suit anyone who is working towards building their inclusive practice, thereby creating more socially just and equitable classrooms. This course is suitable for primary teachers, secondary teachers, ASN teachers and support staff.
