Dear All,
You’ll know we’re going again with a second statutory ballot because we were 3.4% away from getting over the line, with 86% of voting members saying yes to strike action and 93% to ASOS. There’s a breakdown of the first statutory ballot along with campaign details here but presently, the ballot reopens on 2nd Feb and closes 4rd March. Your voting papers will be posted to your home address in a distinctive yellow envelope but in the meantime, contact details - most importantly current postal address - can be updated on the MyEIS area of the National website .
- Elections: It’s the time of year again when all members can stand for local Committee of Management, Office Bearer positions, and National Council. Further information about the Local Association process with links to the appropriate forms are here , and the Council form is available on MyEIS area of the national website. All local and national nomination forms to be returned by February 1st.
- Annual Business Meeting: is on Thursday 5th March at 5pm in The Merchants House, West George Street, just across the road from Queen St station. A key part of the meeting is agreeing which issues we support to take forward to AGM. These can be local or wider, and we’d encourage Branches and members to consider submitting motions on issues of interest to them. These should be sent to JBowman@eis.org.uk by 5pm on Wednesday 11th February. If you need a guide for format and wording, then please let us know and we can send out a support ppt. This link to last year’s Annual General Meeting documents, including all motions, might also be of help AGM 2025.
- GTCS Elections: GTCS Council elections opened on Tuesday, 13th January 2026 and you should have received an email from the GTCS with ballot instructions. The EIS is supporting a number of candidates and would urge you to support them all. When you receive your online voting information, please vote for all EIS supported candidates.
- Pensions Q&A: EIS Pensions and Payroll Specialists, Stephen Stewart and Murray McLeod, will be holding online meetings at 4pm on the following dates and you can sign up by clicking the one date that bests suits you: Wed 4th Feb, Wed 18th Feb, Tues 10th March or Wed 25th March
- Branch Meetings: If a speaker would be helpful for meetings, please contact glasgowla@eis.org.uk to get this organised. We’d cover all themes of the Stand Up for Quality Education campaign: Workload, Behaviour and ASN along with the second statutory ballot of our ongoing workload dispute, writing motions to influence EIS policy and any H&S issues or other agenda items specific to your school.
- EIS Equality and Leadership Weekend School 2026: This takes place 30th January (half-day), 1st February, 2nd February (half-day). The EIS is now delighted to open registration to Our Voices in Union Weekend School 2026, a residential programme which aims to grow the leadership and improve the representation of BAME, LGBT, disabled, neurodivergent and young members within their own workplaces, and within the Union. More information and guidance on how to register can be found here: Voices in the Union Weekend
