National Officer (Further Education)

£63,058 - £71,657 + Car/Car Allowance + Final Salary Pension Scheme

An opportunity has arisen to join our team in a permanent, full-time role as National Officer (Further Education). Duties of this post will include the recruitment and retention of members, training for members, negotiations with employers and the provision of organisational support to the executive committee of the EIS Further Education Lecturers’ Association (FELA).

Applications from candidates with a background in teaching or lecturing are particularly welcome, as are those from candidates with previous or current experience of working within a trade union in a professional or lay capacity.

The post will be based at the EIS Head Office in Edinburgh. However, the Institute has a Flexible Working Patterns policy, offering all members of staff a high degree of flexibility over the location at which work is carried out, subject to the overall requirements of the EIS and its members.

The post comes with the optional benefit of a car allowance, provided on the basis of the EIS car policy.

Organiser (Fixed Term to 28 February 2025)

£50,796 Per annum + car/car allowance + pension benefits

This post could be based in the EIS HQ in central Edinburgh or at one of the Area Offices located in Glasgow or Dundee. However, the Institute has a Flexible Working Patterns policy, offering all members of staff a high degree of flexibility over the location at which work is carried out, subject to the overall requirements of the Institute and its members.

The fixed term post is to provide cover for an existing post holder whilst they are on internal secondment. It is envisaged that the period of employment will commence as soon as possible (subject to the successful candidate’s availability) and end on 28 February 2025.

The job description involves the recruitment and retention of Institute members with emphasis on the integration of probationers and newly qualified teachers. Additionally, the Organiser will support activities aimed more broadly at developing member engagement such as CPD events, training of activists and campaigning, and will undertake some casework at establishment level.

Job Description

Administrative Assistant Grade C – Aberdeen (Term Time)

Starting Salary £8388.71 (with scale increases over 4 years)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised administrator to provide assistance to the Aberdeen Local Association Secretaries in the day to day running of one of our largest and most active Local Associations.

The candidate should have experience carrying out key administrative duties including office management, the preparation and distribution of routine correspondence, the organisation of meetings (including liaison with external venues) and managing diaries and scheduling appointments for the Local Association Secretaries and other elected officials. The post holder will also be expected to deal with routine telephone and email enquiries, providing first line response to members. 

The candidate will have a high standard of communication skills and excellent attention to detail as well as good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

This is a part time, term time, position based in Town House, First Floor room 1-27, Broad Street, Aberdeen. Hours of work are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 9.00am to 1.00pm. The role is structured such that holidays are to be taken on all days on which Aberdeen City schools are closed for teaching staff.
