Observers
The EIS Annual General Meeting will be held in the Caird Hall, Dundee on 4, 5 and 6 June 2026. Any member wishing to attend as an observer should contact the General Secretary no later than Friday 15 May 2026.
FEIS
The Statutory Meeting of Fellows of the Institute will be held in the Caird Hall, Dundee at 2.15pm on Thursday 4 June 2026.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Schools: Guidlines and Guardrails
|
|
|
|
|
|
In March 2026, the Scottish Government published ‘Scottish Guidelines and Guardrails for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Schools’. This guidance was produced following close collaboration with the EIS and input from other partners.
Look out for short videos explaining each of the five key principles underpinning responsible use of AI in education. These videos will be released throughout May.

Stories about transgender people in education

|
Following on from Transgender Visibility Day, we want to hear your stories and experiences to help inform the EIS's work in support of transgender staff and learners' rights and equality. We know that the last year has been difficult for the transgender community, many of whom are our valued colleagues and pupils.
We are keen to hear from you about experiences of good practice and positive stories as well as any challenges encountered at this time. To share your experience, please take some time to engage in our short survey.

The EIS will be offering a series of national poverty-related professional learning sessions as part of the PACT Programme.
PACT is a professional learning offer for educators in Scotland, rooted in the principles of social justice and equity. It is designed to support educators to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the nature, causes, and consequences of poverty, and its impact on learners, families, and wider communities.

EIS Joint Equality Networks Gathering: Let's Change the Story
|

This Joint Equality Networks Meeting is open to members who are disabled, neurodivergent, Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or under 30 years of age. It is also open to all EIS Equality Representatives.

Reasonable travel expenses will be covered by EIS Headquarters.

Time for Inclusive Education: Challenging Homophobic Bullying
|
|
|
|
|
Wednesday 13th May, 4pm - 5pm
Members are reporting that prejudice-based bullying and language - including homophobia - is becoming increasingly commonplace in educational establishments.
This practical webinar will focus on how schools can respond effectively to homophobic bullying, highlighting key interventions set out in national guidance and sharing examples of effective practice.

Digital Discourse Initiative
|
|
|
|
|
The Digital Discourse Initiative programme provides schools with tools and strategies to counter the effects of disinformation and online hate on children and young people.
After a successful pilot, free interactive educational workshops for learners between P6 to S6, designed to support critical and digital media literacy, will soon be available to schools. Bookings will open shortly.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe
|
|
|
|
|
Taking a class or group to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe might sound daunting, but there’s plenty of support available, and both teachers and learners have fed back that it’s a great way to start the term and help cement teacher-pupil relationships for the rest of the academic year.
This year’s Fringe runs from 7th – 31st August 2026, and the Fringe Society – the charity that underpins the festival – is keen to ensure that local schools and teachers are able to make the most of the world-class event on their doorstep.
