Don't miss the last post! Time is running out to cast your vote in the workload postal ballot. Please post your ballot paper by 1st March to ensure it arrives in time to be counted.
The EIS believes that reducing class contact time will:
- Reduce teacher workload
- Create more permanent teaching posts
- Provide more time for ‘preparation & correction’- time for lesson planning, differentiation and ASN, marking and assessment
- Improve teacher health and wellbeing
- Have a positive impact on pupils’ learning.

International Health and Wellbeing Survey - IBEST 2026
As we indicated in an email at the end of January, the EIS is joining trade unions from the UK and around the world to participate in an international survey of teachers’ health and wellbeing called the International Barometer of Health and Well-being of Education Staff (I-BEST) and we are seeking your views.
Unfortunately, the survey link you received in the last bulletin is no longer working.
A new link has been created and can be accessed here: . If you have already completed the survey, thank you for your participation and there is no need to do so again. Your data has been captured and will inform recommendations emerging from the survey.
The information gathered from the survey will support our Stand Up for Quality Education campaign as we continue to fight for increased core education funding to address additional support needs, reduce violence and aggression in our schools as well as concrete reductions in teachers’ workload.
We encourage you to participate and make your voice heard on this important issue.

Teaching in a Gendered Digital Age: Safety and Solidarity – Tuesday, 10th March (5.30pm- 6.30pm)
To mark International Women’s Day, the EIS is hosting an online webinar, exploring how we can foster solidarity and safety in a gendered digital age.
This one-hour session will focus on tackling misogynistic disinformation and promoting gender equality in education and in the workplace.
We will discuss how we can build lasting solidarity action for equality and share anti-misogyny education resources.

On 16th February, the Scottish Government launched a campaign on tackling online misogyny, which will be targeted at boys aged 11-18.
Online misogyny is a significant and growing issue affecting young people across Scotland. As a result of the campaign, conversations about misogyny and its impact may arise in classrooms and among pupils.

The GTCS launched the new MyGTCS platform in August 2025. The new platform brings together the existing MyGTCS, provisional registration profiles and MyPL. It was rolled out to all provisionally registered teachers and their supporters last year and is now being rolled out to all teachers on a staged basis.
GTCS has advised that there are currently no definitive dates of when records will be transferred over to the new system. However, teachers will receive an email approximately two weeks before any transfer takes place.
Further information about the new MyGTCS platform and rollout can be accessed on the GTCS website.
